Only You
I want to share an inspirational piece I wrote, one of the very last songs I penned before leaving the music business in 1996. “Only You” was sung by a very talented actor/singer, and friend, from Windsor, Ontario, Joe Cardinal. The “you” in the song can refer to many things on one’s life. The lyric appears below the play controls. Enjoy!
Through the eye of the storm
I can travel and stay safe and warm
Through the heart of battlelines
I can break through and cross the other side
There is nothin’ I can’t do
Oh there’s nothin’ I can’t get through
And there’s no one by my side
Only you
Only you
Can keep me standin’ so proud and tall
Only you
Keep me braced against and lookin’ over the wall
Only you
Give everything that
Keeps me clear
My life on the track
Keeping you near
Is all that I can ask for
On the steep mountainside
With you behind me now watch me climb
On the oceans wild I’ll set my sails
And I’ll feel your breath if winds don’t prevail
There is nothin’ I can’t be
And there’s nothin’ that I need
Just the love only you give to me
Only you
Can keep my feet so firmly on the path
Only you
Keep the precious breezes pressed against my back
Only you
Give everything that
Keeps me clear
My life on the track
Keeping you near
Is all that I can ask for
-repeat first chorus-
