This Is Killin’ Me Tonight

This is the last country tune from the Jules’ recording sessions in Nashville in 1992, and frankly my favorite of the bunch. Previous posts included Half a Man, Cookin’ At Home Tonight, One Tear Too Late and Til You Walk Right Back to Me.

Again, top session players (Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Marty Stuart etc.) joined Jules and I in the House of David studio to record the Roy Orbison inspired This Is Killin’ Me Tonight.

One Tear Too Late

Countin’ down to the last few country tunes from the Jules’ recording sessions in Nashville in 1992. Previous posts included Half a Man, Cookin’ At Home Tonight and Til You Walk Right Back to Me.

Again, top session players (Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Marty Stuart etc.) joined Jules and I in the House of David studio to record the uptempo One Tear Too Late. Considering the kind of country hits you hear nearly 20 years later, I think we were a little bit ahead of our time:-)

Til You Walk Right Back to Me

I’m going to finish up the country song category this week with the tracks  I recorded in Nashville with my great friend and country co-writer, Jules, in 1992. A few months ago I posted Half a Man and Cookin’ At Home Tonight and I will post the remaining three collaborations throughout the week.

Jules, after having enjoyed a couple of top-ten country hits in Canada in the 80’s, lived in Music City for a few years prior to our traveling there together and managed to effectively network, becoming friends with many industry heavy hitters. As such, top session players (Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Marty Stuart etc.) joined Jules and I in the House of David studio to record the bluesy Til You Walk Right Back to Me. Solo by famous sax man, Jim Horn.

What Am I Without You?

Yup, pretty awful title from a self-development perspective but one that was necessary to develop the storyline of having the singer evolve from a co-dependent relationship into, well, you can listen to find out:-) To be honest, this was one of those songs I would have loved to have demoed with a full country band – real drums, bass, acoustic guitar, harmonica and pedal steel. Even with just the quickly programmed synthesizer and vocals, courtesy of the talented Barbara Payton, I hope you enjoy What Am I Without You? even a fraction as much as I did writing it.

Click Play but please never ask yourself this question:-)

You Tip Toed into My Heart

Gettin’ down to the last remaining country pop songs and this was among the very first Larry Thompson and I wrote and recorded. It’s a light, happy, kinda cutesy country demo called You Tip Toed into My Heart, sung again by a young Cheryl Hardy of London, Ontario.

Click Play but tread lightly!

Simple Emotion

Here’s a quickly programmed country pop demo with all instruments coming off a single synthesizer. Simple Emotion was sung by the very talented Barbara Payton (Detroit) who I went on to write and produce a CD for a few years later.  Barbara went on to record and tour with Bob Seger and Kid Rock and she is the background singer on Kid’s mega-hit, All Summer Long, from last year. I will feature a few songs from Barbara’s CD, Walk on Water, very soon.

Click Play and enjoy some simple emotion!
