We Had the Sun
A few months ago I featured a light female pop song called Someday I’ll Find Him. This is sort of a sister song and was sung by the same young vocalist from Windsor, Ontario named Rowena. I particularly liked Belinda Carlisle back then and I’m sure you’ll hear some of her influence in We Had the Sun. You might just agree that it sounds like a song Taylor Swift would record:-)

Lost In All Your Love
Here’s a short, simple and airy little pop song I wrote and recorded in the early 90’s. I vividly recall my youngest daughter, Teri, hanging with me in the studio as the singer, Ping Parks from Detroit, MI, struggled with a nasty cold while laying down her vocal tracks.

You’re Everything to Me
Here’s You’re Everything to Me, the second Motown type song that Gene Davis, Larry Thompson and I wrote mid 80’s. As I mentioned yesterday Gene was recruited by Berry Gordy and Motown Records in the early days along with artists like Smokey Robinson and The 4 Tops.

Ain’t No 2 Ways
A talented singer songwriter, Gene Davis, and Larry Thompson and I took a shot at writing a couple of Motown type songs in the mid 80’s and here is the first of those. Years before, Gene was recruited by Berry Gordy and Motown in the early days along with artists like Smokey Robinson (remember “The Miracles”?) and The 4 Tops, and you’ll see why while listening to Ain’t No 2 Ways. Sax solo by the incomparable Ray Manzerolle, who has played behind acts such as George Benson among others.
Tomorrow, I’ll post the second Motowny tune.

The Least You Could Have Said
Continuing along with pop song demos from the 80’s and 90’s here is a song that John Annesi and I wrote in 1985. You may recall that our song, Fine Line won the first annual Billboard Magazine Song Competition. I lost touch with John for 20+ years and just recently made contact with him on Facebook. Much to his credit, he went on to write songs for music icons like Barry Manilow (A Long Way Up).

Slow, Slow Burn
This is one of those quick two-hour demos when I took advantage of the time available when the talented, gravel-voiced singer Barbara Payton was in the studio working with me on some pre-production songs. I recall laying this up using a single synthesizer and doing a quick mix but I never got around to dressing up the sultry, bluesy ballad so that it could be pitched. So, in it’s state of undress, take a listen to Slow, Slow Burn.
Click Play but beware… it may be hot!
